“Construction Products” Directive
EC marking on structural wood is a European provision applied to all products intended for lasting use in building or civil engineering structures covered by the regulations. EC labelled products meet 6 essential requirements:
- mechanical strength and stability of the structure
- fire safety
- hygiene and health of residents in or around the structure
- safety of use of the structure
- acoustic performance of the structure
- energy-saving and heat insulation performance of the structure.
Companies perform visual grading in accordance with the NF EN 52-001 standard or machine grading in accordance with NF EN 14081-2-3-4.
To this effect, they implement production controls in their plants which are subject to regular checks by an independent certification body.
The Construction Products Directive (CPD) concerns only the manufacturing stage of the products. It does not take account of issues relating to use of the products, which are covered by the Unified Technical Documents, or to design questions covered by the euroCodes.
EC marking of maritime pine products certifies that they meet the requirements of the European regulations.
It authorises them to be marketed as structural wood on the French market or throughout the EU.
